Why do front wheel drive 1/4 mile (dragstrip) cars need wheelie bars ?
When the tires spin, centrifical force expands their diameter. The wheelie bars force the weight of the car onto the tires for better traction.
Notice that they don’t touch at a standstill, but are close to the ground. Upon launch, the front tires expand and force the wheelie bar to touch. This puts the pressure on the front.
