Car not starting.?
My wife locked the keys in the car today. I called a locksmith a few hours later and unlocked the car. When he left, the car wouldn’t start. None of the lights or door-open sounds would come on. The battery was dead. So I asked around and got a jump-start.
As soon as he plugged his jumper cables in, my lights and noises worked. However, my engine would not start. It wouldn’t even attempt to turn over. Even if he revved his engine, we tried for 15 mins. As soon as he unhooked, my lights went dead again. I know little about cars, but there appear to be no loose connections. The car is a Subaru Legacy 95.
Advice?
Oh and, what is the likelyhood that my problem is the battery? Or is it more likely my starter?
I really advice you to pick up a battery charger tester so you can test and charge the battery yourself.Don’t try charging it in the vehicle take it out and if you don’t want to charge it yourself take it to some place to get it tested and charged.Keep in mind that most battery’s don’t last longer then 10 yrs and most go faulty within 3 to 5 yrs.Plus just bec headlights etc work it doesn’t mean the battery has enough cranking amps to start the vehicle.
If you do decide to buy a new battery I highly recommend you buy a Interstate battery with at least 850 cold cranking amps.
