Does it have to be in excellent physical condition to handle Yoshinkan Aikido?
Some background on me, I practiced karate, judo, and Aikikai very little, but due to scheduling problems, decided to join a Yoshinkan starting this week. I have researched a lot, both Aikikai and Yoshinkan and Aikikai know is considered a "soft" Yoshinkan style and a "hard" style, but of course, I learned that depends on the instructor. But my question is, I know that both are similar, but there's more emphasis on physical exercise in the heat, such as push-ups, running, etc? Or is it as the "usual" Judo / Aikido warming, which are mostly stretching, etc. I'm not that worried, but I just want to be ready, I have not done any cardio important during time. Thanks, I know that supposedly the Tokyo riot police have to know Yoshinkan, and obviously better than being in excellent physical condition? What Agee?
In reality, no matter what physical condition you are, what matters is what the mental state that is in part in an art not familiar with martial usually means having to retrain the muscles that normally do not use regularly, so no matter how fit you are, generally you feel tired after trying something new. This is what we do after feeling the tiredness and fatigue that counts. If you really are determined to keep training and improve on it, then sooner or later reach its peak of how the art. So do not worry too much about it. I remember the first time I tried Aikido in college and feeling completely overwhelmed by physical endurance training involved (yes it takes a lot of popular resistance unlike misconceptions our teacher was a master disk and requires at least 100 repetitions of each exercise and technique, heat only lasted 1 hour and not a minute less) I do not think I could after a minute, but after years of training, could go for an hour and still be able to raise his arms and stand. Just focus more on mastery of a technique at a time, you will come very soon.
