Problem with the key step 11 passive theft deterrent system on 1997 Buick Riviera?

I have a Buick Riviera 1997. Sometimes when you try starting the car, the security feature does not allow it to start. I have to sit and wait for the safety of yellow "light to exit (approximately 3 minutes) to try again. I can not seem to understand why this is happening, and if something is done to avoid that (apart from replacing it). I have ordered a new key, the elimination of a theory of mechanics that could be a dirty ignition key that makes the security function to exit. Any ideas? Even after purchasing a new key, the security system is still active.

96 Pontiac I had the same problem. There was a manual procedure in which they worked. I can not remember what it was, but finally I found the solution in the manual .. You may want to verify your owner's manual and / or and search online for Grand Prix manual. It is possible that your mechanic is taking a walk in the key of this expensive. Why can not the current key can be cleaned with some alcohol?
